Angular Coffee Table

We were asked to create a statement coffee table that challenges traditional forms while maintaining functionality. The piece needed to embody both sculptural presence and practical utility, with a finish that would complement contemporary interiors. CEEN designed this coffee table with a focus on angular geometry softened by organic details. The form features a distinctive asymmetrical shape, with the top appearing to float above its solid base. A carefully crafted bullnose edge softens the table's profile, creating a more organic, inviting presence that contrasts with the piece's angular silhouette.

We crafted the piece from solid oak, celebrating the wood's natural grain patterns through careful material selection. The dynamic form appears different from every viewpoint, with the rounded edges encouraging interaction and adding a tactile quality to the design. While the original piece showcases the natural oak, we later applied a black stain that enhanced rather than concealed the wood's inherent characteristics. This treatment allowed the grain to remain visible while adding a sophisticated, contemporary finish that grounds the sculptural form.

The result is a piece that serves as both functional furniture and artistic statement, demonstrating CEEN's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional furniture design while honoring the natural beauty of our materials.
