A compact space enveloped in glass presented both opportunity and challenge. With a south-west aspect flooding the apartment with evening light, we needed to work with existing elements including dated kitchens and an established color palette of anthracite grey and wooden flooring. The challenge lay in elevating these existing features while creating a space with personality.
CEEN approached this project with a focus on texture and custom elements. We enveloped the apartment in textured wallpapers, softening the harshness of vast painted walls while maintaining the industrial aesthetic that suited this city apartment.
We designed and built two custom beds that allowed the bedrooms to transcend their spatial constraints. These bespoke pieces transformed what could have been basic bedrooms into spaces with distinct character and design integrity.
Throughout the apartment, we curated an eclectic mix of materials that speak to an industrial yet artistic spirit. Mirrored sideboards sit alongside marble side tables, while glazed ceramic tableware, cowhides, and a bold red rug add layers of texture. Art by local artist and fashion designer Hyo-Isak adds a contemporary touch, his works highlighting social issues while toying around with the boundaries of realism by integrating unexpected elements and contexts.
The result is a young, dynamic space that celebrates both industrial roots and artistic expression while proving that small apartments don't have to compromise on personality.
